She was convinced the demonic pain she had suffered in her leg as a child had been in some sort of preparation for the accident. Engraved in her memory was how she had been left speechless by the first attack. She had yet to accept that pain cannot be expressed in words but only in inarticulate screams. It took time before she could put brush to canvas, and still more time before she could paint pictures that screamed. In place of the screams themselves. In place of verbal descriptions. She owed it to her father, she thought, to the frantic look in his eyes which she would never forget, and to his words: 'Tell me, tell me!. Anonymous
About This Quote

In the essay, "The Blind Man," by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author talks about a man named Adolfo Bioy Casares who is blind from birth. He explains that Bioy makes it his mission in life to seek out and paint every one of the sixty-three paintings that were done by a blind artist in Spain in the sixteenth century. Throughout his life, he is plagued by a nightmare where he is locked in a cave with a group of demons. In this dream, they take turns pulling him into the pit.

In the end, he has all of his hair cut off by one demon and is left without any way to communicate with anyone. In his last days, the demons take him into their world and leave him there. The meaning behind this revealing quote is that although we cannot communicate with each other verbally, we can communicate with our actions through art.

If we are given the chance to express ourselves through art, then we can communicate with others despite our physical disabilities.
